our trip to Toronto
To kick-off 2025, James and I travelled to Toronto for 5 days this January. A change of scenery right in the heart of winter. Crazy, right?
We spent our days wandering through galleries and museums, cozying up in restaurants, and soaking in the layered textures of urban spaces. Despite the freezing temperatures, walking through different neighborhoods was a treat. Little Italy was our first late afternoon walkabout followed by a nice pasta dinner and a rich glass of wine.
CN Tower was a favourite! The sun making an appearance and highlighting the skyline was the best of the show, breathtaking views that keep bringing us back for more.
The murals in Kensington Market covered nearly every available wall. It was like walking through an outdoor art gallery. The whole experience was a good reminder of how much I enjoy being surrounded by art.
One of the highlights of the trip was visiting the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), where classic and contemporary pieces sparked many a conversation amongst ourselves. The building itself is a work of art. Galleria Italia is a fascinating space with wooden beams arching overhead, resembling the ribs of a grand ship or the branches of an abstracted forest. It is like an arquitectural pause before taking it all in.
Casa Loma felt like a step into another era, a grand castle perched on a hill with sweeping views of Toronto. We spent 3 hours walking through every single room, hallway and secret passages. It is a magical place in a thrusting modern city.
This trip was more than just a getaway—it was a reset. The shift in environment, the exposure to new art, and the simple act of observing a different rhythm of life all played a part in shaping the outlook for the year.
2025 is off to a strong start, and I can't wait to see where these inspirations lead.
