Open studio tour 2023

I have been looking forward to this weekend all year! So happy to have participated in the Comox Valley Arts Studio Tour! Artists and creatives all around central island open up their studios to show their work on May long weekend.

It has been such a wonderful experience. Not only did I get to show off my artwork, but I also got to connect with likeminded people who share my love for art. Talking to others about art and art making was inspiring, and it gave me the opportunity to see which pieces were the favourites, and what the public would like to see more of. My creative self is ready to get started again.

During the tour I also did a short demo on Gelli plate printing, and it was so fulfilling to see people’s happy faces as they watched me paint. It was such a joy to be able to share some of my process with others and to see their excitement about a different technique. Creativity is all about exploration and discovery, so seeing, trying new things and being open to the unexpected is certainly a very good start!

My passion for art making and mixed media in particular, keeps me exploring and experimenting ways of self-expression. I paint to communicate my inner world with others and make someone smile. Mixed media is definitely an exciting way to create art, as it allow me to combine different materials and techniques to produce something truly unique. Adding textures layer after layer, blending colours, and creating patterns, gives depth and dimension to every piece. My hope is to reflect my passion in a unique style and vision.

The turnout was so good that I ran out of cookies! But hey, I figured happy people don’t really need it anyway!

Thanks to everyone who attended!

I can’t wait to do it again next year. (or sooner…)
