A Letter from the Studio: Reflections on Summer 2024
Dear Friends,
As the warmth of summer begins to fade and autumn arrives with its crisp air and golden light, I find myself reflecting on this past season. It has been a time of creativity, growth, and connection, and I’d love to share some of the highlights from Silvina Lanusse Art over the last few months.
The summer began on a high note with From Verse to Canvas, my May show at The Old School House Arts Centre in Qualicum Beach. This exhibition explored the intersection between poetry and visual art, a theme that continued to inspire me through the season. My current exhibit, Visual Stanzas, at the McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville, takes this dialogue between verse and image even further and will be on display until the end of the month. These shows have given me the chance to explore the power of narrative within art, an exploration that I’ve found both challenging and rewarding.
Another milestone this summer was my first-ever summer inventory sale, where I shared a range of mixed media originals and prints. It was heartwarming to see how many of you connected with the stories behind the artwork, and I’m grateful for everyone who supported my work during this event.
In the studio, I spent time working on some new, smaller projects, including a new collection of hand-painted greeting cards, currently at McMillan Arts Centre. This project allowed me to explore a more intimate form of expression—each card was like a small canvas, a way to bring art into everyday moments of connection and celebration.
This summer also brought exciting teaching opportunities. I had the pleasure of offering a class at Milner Gardens, where we explored nature as inspiration for art. The tranquil setting of the gardens offered the perfect backdrop for creativity to flourish. Additionally, my weekly gel printing workshops at Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort and Conference Centre became a cherished part of my routine. These sessions allowed participants to experiment with the gel printing process, creating unique monoprints in a relaxed, encouraging environment. Watching everyone’s joy as they discovered the possibilities of the medium was truly rewarding. These hands-on sessions continue to be a wonderful way to share what I’ve learned and to foster a sense of community around art.
On a more personal note, this summer has been a time of reflection as I said goodbye to my beloved dog, Polo. He was a constant presence in my studio, and his memory lives on in many of my pieces. Though I miss him dearly, his spirit remains a quiet inspiration in my creative work.
As I look ahead to the new season, I’m filled with gratitude for the support I’ve received from all of you—whether through attending my shows, purchasing art, or simply following along on this creative journey. Thank you for being part of this meaningful summer. I’m excited to see where the coming months will take us, and I look forward to sharing new work with you soon.
